Dr. Denis Petro shared his decades of experience as a neurologist in the United States, as well as his research into medical cannabis. He noted that the highest levels of scientific evidence, systematic reviews, have been achieved to justify the use of cannabis for the treatment of spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis and nausea associated with chemotherapy. Such evidence includes double-blind, placebo-controlled trials, the same trials used to determine the efficacy of conventional pharmaceutical medications. Dr. Petro also described details from a United States patent indicating the neuroprotective and antioxidant properties of cannabidiol, and its potential to treat Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, HIV dementia, and brain injuries. In addition to its amazing potential, cannabis is extremely safe, as it is physically impossible to die from and it cannot cause permanent organ damage.
Dr. Petro shared a quote from a Drug Enforcement Administration judge who stated,
“Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man. By any measure of rational analysis marijuana can be safely used within a supervised routine of medical care.”
